Contributory Aged Parent Visa Subclass 884 (Onshore) – Temporary

The contributory aged parent visa, Subclass 884 for short, is a temporary residency permit that allows older parents (mostly 65+ Years old) to live in Australia if they have an Australian child who can sponsor them.

This type of temporary resident visa cannot be extended or renewed like the rest of the regular visas; it only lasts two years and then expires. However, there’s no need to worry about this expiration as the parents can apply for a new visa Subclass 864 (Permanent), which is a permanent type of Visa.
You must be very careful that the application for Subclass 864 (permanent) must be applied before the expiry of the temporary visa Subclass 884.

• Parents will not receive Government Support.
• It is an expensive Visa.

Requirements & Eligibility Criteria for Subclass 884

• The applicant must have an eligible child as an approved sponsor who must be a settled Australian Permanent resident, Australian citizen, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
• The applicant should be old enough to receive the Australian old-aged pension. (65+ years in most cases)
• Parents must be in Australia and not be in immigration clearance at the time of lodgement of Visa or at the time of decision about this Visa application from the Department of home affairs.
• Any other member of the family unit included in the application must be inside Australia at the time of lodgement of an application.
• Parents or any member of the family unit included in the application must not be on any Visa that has no further stay condition unless a waiver is applied.
• Must Clear Health Check (Health examination)
• Must Clear Character checks (Police Clearance certificate)
• You must be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia.
• Have to meet the balance of family test.
• Not have had a visa canceled or a previous application refused.
• Must meet the balance of family test.

 

Restrictions after the Visa is granted

• You should not be disruptive and engage in violence.
• You must hold adequate health insurance throughout your stay in Australia.
• You must leave Australia before the expiry of the Visa.
• Notify the Department of a change of details like name, address, phone number, email address, or passport change.
• Must not engage in any criminal conduct.
• You can not include other family members in your Visa application.

 

Extension and renewal of the Visa:

This Visa is for two years only and cannot be renewed or extended. You can, however, apply to Subclass 886.

 

Visa Label for Contributory Aged Parent Visa Subclass 884

The Department will digitally map or link your Visa to your passport. The Visa label is not required on your passport.

 

Travel Permissions

You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you like while the Visa is valid.

 

The end of Subclass 884 Visa

Your parent visa can end because of one of the following reasons:

• If the validity dates specified on your Visa is expired.
• It is canceled by the Department of Home affairs due to any reason.
• If the sponsorship is withdrawn and the new sponsor is not found.
• If the sponsorship is canceled by the Department of home affairs.
